Stone-baked deliciousness
Mellow Mushroom is not a North Carolina born spot. I first discovered it when I moved to Atlanta back in college and I just looooved its hippy vibe and artsy mushrooms. As a bonus, the pizza was phenomenal. And so, for 25 years now, I’ve kept going back – whether in Atlanta or in its expanded territories. While I do not like the idea of overly developing across too many areas because I think that quite often the quality of the food goes down, I am always a little relieved when I find a new Mellow Mushroom because I know that – at the very least – we can find good pizza since they have so far proven to be an exception to the expansion rule.
Since we did not have any luck at the American Tobacco campus finding any of our old spots for dinner, so we “settled” for Mellow Mushroom. Since we love Mellow Mushroom, it wasn’t really settling but we had been hoping for a local spot we remembered only to find out that it was gone. So, we filled our bellies with yummy pizza before the game. We never get anything larger than a medium at ANY pizza shop ANYwhere because the large sizes never cook properly, so – as usual – we got a medium to split between the three of us (anticipating stadium snacks once we got across the street). Half this and half that to appease everyone plus some extra marinara for dipping and we were good to go!
I would recommend trying their cheese bread pretzels if you have enough room in your belly for that much bread. Their dough is just so yummy. They also have a pretty decent selection of salads which is great for some added dinner greens!
