Finger Dripping Good

My belly is not a huge fan of ice cream. This doesn’t stop me from eating it, but if I am going to eat it then it’s gotta be really darn good. What this means is that I am quite often hunting for dessert spots that are NOT ice cream. This is shockingly hard sometimes. We happily discovered LocoPops this way. Originally, it was a tiny little shop in a strip mall near the pet food store where we could find our dog food. It was just fine – you walked in, picked out your popcicle and walked back out. The locally made popcicles were available in fun flavors and without anything overly processed. They were delicious.

So, I was hoping to go back. When we drove by the spot though I noticed it was gone – the whole building was replaced by a brand-new huge development! I quickly went to Google and – whew! – it had just moved. We had to shift it to a different day since it was in a completely different part of town, but that was OK. When we finally made it there – it was even better than the original space!

The new spot is in a little old house in Durham with a big covered porch and a backyard with lots of grass and picnic tables with umbrellas. The porch is scattered with colorful rocking chairs and the floor is covered with old popcicle drippings. We went in to pick out our flavors. After browsing the little store, we finally decided on chocolate brownie, Mexican chocolate and mojito. We took them outside so we could add our drips to the others and happily rocked with our frozen treats shaded from the hot afternoon sun. They were as wonderfully good as we remembered. Yay!
